Get my Equifax Credit Report

How do I get my free Equifax Credit Report?

Accessing your Equifax Credit Report is easy, and it is free. You can request your credit report from Equifax in the following ways:

  • Order online on our website

  • Call us on 13 8332 and follow the prompt

  • Mail your request to us at PO Box 964, NORTH SYDNEY NSW 2059
     

Free Online Equifax Credit Reports are delivered within one business day, provided we are able to verify your identity. Please note if you have requested to receive your free credit report by post, this may take up to 10 business days after we have been able to verify your identity.

You are entitled to a free Credit Report from Equifax once every three months or in the following situations:

  • You’ve been denied credit. In this case you need to make your request for a free Credit Report within 90 days from the date your application was declined.

  • You have submitted a correction request and are advised that the information on your Credit Report has been corrected.
     

When applying for your free Equifax credit report it is a good idea to have the following information at your fingertips:

  • Your full name

  • Your date of birth

  • Your driver's licence number

  • Your current residential address

  • Your previous addresses

  • Your current employer or a previous employer

  • Name of the organisation to which you last applied for credit

 

Only you can request a copy of your Equifax Credit Report (you can’t have your partner or a family member do it). For security reasons, you will be asked to verify your identity prior to receiving a copy of your Credit Report.

For mailed requests, you will need to provide a minimum 100 point check. Please click here to view the accepted document list.Please note that all documents you are providing will need to be certified.

As this is a free credit report, no payment is required.

Equifax also offers a range of paid subscription plans where you can get your Equifax Credit Report, Equifax Credit Score and other features such as credit and identity monitoring. These subscriptions will need to be applied for online.

 

What is an Authorised Access Seeker?

An Authorised Access Seeker is an individual in relation to their own credit reporting information, or a person (including a company) who is assisting an individual to deal with a credit reporting body or credit provider and acting on a written authority from the individual.

Types of Authorised Access Seekers may include:

  • Consumer debt management companies including credit repair and debt negotiation companies
  • Finance or mortgage brokers
  • Budgeting and financial education firms, such as a financial counsellor
  • Individuals are also referred to as Authorised Access Seekers in relation to their own credit reporting information. If you are a consumer wishing to access your credit report please view our range of Equifax free credit reports and paid subscription plans here.

What is a letter of authority (LOA)?

You must provide to us reasonable evidence that you have received from your client their written authority for you to act on their behalf to make a request for access to their credit report.  Examples of such written evidence include:

  • an appropriately worded document signed by your client, including by them using their e-signature via services like DocuSign; or
  • a copy of an appropriately worded email from your client to you.

What to include in a letter of authority

The information we require in a letter of authority is described below and a letter template has been provided.

Incomplete information may result in registration processing delays, or we may ask you to provide a new letter with the correct information.

How to write a letter of authority

The letter of authority must:

  • Be dated
  • Include your client's details (ie. Full Name, Date of Birth, Current Residential Address)
  • Include the access seeker's details (Full Name of the person and organisation acting on behalf of the client)
  • A statement that confirms consent from your client for you to act on their behalf to obtain a copy of their credit report

Please copy the text from the template below and ensure all requested information is provided. Incomplete information may result in application processing delays, or Equifax requesting a new letter be submitted.

Applicants must consent to Equifax conducting an audit of documentation used to support an application to verify information provided. 

Giving false or misleading information is a serious offence under relevant legislation. A person convicted of an offence under such legislation is liable to imprisonment and/or a material fine.
